What is my name ?

What is my name ?

This apparently native blooming tree is located in Southern Maryland, on a strip of unencumbered nature, between the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. The leaves of the flower have the consistency of a magnolia blossom.
Thank you for your help.

Aphids love them and it gets very sticky under them in the summer.

Thank you for finding the name of this tree for me. There are oodles around here and yes, very tall and also not so tall but very bushy. Good hint about not planting too close to the septic. Will heed that one !! ;)

Sorry I was just so excited I could contribute!

Tulip Tree - Liriodendron tulipifera Magnoliaceae - Magnolia family

They grow beautifully but if it is near your septic system you may want to consider saying goodbye unless you can fine a way to block its roots; they are thirsty trees. They grow very tall and bush out for shade very well if they are not in the middle of the forrest, which most of mine are or were. They are excellent for furniture though because of their tall straight growth habit.
