Giant Hogweed
by: Anonymous

This plant looks like the giant hogweed which is extremely bad. The sap will burn your skin. In Ontario we are having a hard time getting rid of it because of the burns that it causes.

Valerian
by: Chelle

Actually it looks like Valerian. It grows wild but will also grow in the garden and is extremely hearty! It does spread but the flowers are pretty. :) It's an herb. Look it up and see if it looks the same (I have it growing in my garden as well and it gets very tall!)

Check the stems. If they have a groove and purple spots, it's likely Poison Hemlock.

Could be...
by: Amy

It could be a poison hemlock, but I am almost positive its a very large cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris). Its hard to tell, because the plants are so similar. I have the cow parsley in purple, and though that variety has never gotten that large, some varieties get up to six feet tall...with the proper conditions, it may get to seven feet tall.

I think I know!!! Call on me!

My Wildflower book with line drawings has made me think I have a dangerous invader, made famous by Socrates............ poisonous Hemlock!! I guess this is one weed we should not eat.
